Volocity

What is Volocity:

Volocity (Improvision/Perkin Elmer) is a 3D and time lapse (4D) imaging program for volume visualization, analysis, object measurement, tracking and colocalization.  It can use source data from diverse sources such as confocal microscopes & widefield microscopes.  Volocity can easily import z-series &/or time lapse image sequences from the Zeiss 510 or Leica SP2 or Biorad or Perkin Elmer confocal programs with metadata, as well as from other software.

Where can it be Used:

Volocity is installed on the image processing workstations called \\Zernike (64 bit version 4.4, 512 MB OpenGL video), \\Nomarski (version 5.0) & \\Snell (version 4.4) and can be installed from the Improvision web site and run from your laboratory computer given that it has sufficient RAM and a high performance OpenGL video card.  The Volocity LE (Light Edition) component is for viewing data only and is free to use to registered users at UNC.  The visualization & quantification modules are single instance software licensed to run on only one workstation at a time.  The acquisition module is for use by the Pathology Department only.  Availability of the Volocity licenses can be viewed at http://ai.med.unc.edu:15003. 

Who Can Use Volocity:

Users will need to arrange to have access to this software with facility personnel.  Most users will use their MHmicroscopy user name and password, which must be activated for use in Volocity.  If you do not have an MHmicroscopy account please fill out this New User Information form then contact Michael.  Pathology Olympus microscope users should contact Bob.

Available modules:

• Volocity (Volocity LE) - viewing only.  Data import, cropping, resizing, etc.  Instant access username=guest password=Volocity(LE). Please contact facility personnel and obtain a permanent account.
• Volocity Visualization - 3D rendering
• Volocity Quantitation - Measurement, tracking & co-localization

• Restoration - Not available (C-Imaging blind deconvolution is available at MHMF on \\Normaski )

• Volocity Acquisition - For use by Dept. of Pathology only

0.  Notices:

• Volocity now uses a license server to assign a user a license instance to run the program.  See section 1. below.
• Users who have not used Volocity via the license server should contact Michael to obtain an account (He may respond to after hours requests, if available).

1.  Using Volocity

Connecting to the license server:

• Start Volocity
• If the "Connect to the license server at" shows ai.med.unc.edu or 152.19.83.97 then enter your MHMF user account name and password
• 
• And choose an appropriate configuration

• 3D Visualization

  or

  Acquisition (Pathology Department only)

  • If the server is not ai.med.unc.edu or 152.19.83.97 then press the ESC key and press the Server button
  • 
  • Enter ai.med.unc.edu and port 15002
  • 
• Skip downloading any new software and just bush the Continue button
• 
• Volocity should run if a license is available
